Girls love playing Water Polo.

We have always known that but in 2019 only 21.4% of our members were female. Knowing that this wasn’t good enough we put into place some simple measures to address this imbalance. Our broad philosophy was to provide equal access to resources to all of our members.

This included an equal number of training sessions for boys and girls, equal access to top quality coaching and equal opportunity to follow pathways to become coaches or other supports within the club such as committee members.

Finally we made the cost of bathers for both boys and girls the same price thanks to our successful funding application from the Sporting Clubs Grants Program, a Victorian Government initiative.

Despite the effects of the pandemic on our sport now in 2023 Richmond has 44.4% female members. We are so encouraged by these figures but clearly we have more work to do and we are up for meeting our goal of equal gender participation at our club in the near future.
