CONGRATULATIONS SPINDLES

We are excited to announce that our own Greig Richardson aka Spindles has been appointed the Women’s Head Coach for the upcoming 2022 Australian Water Polo League season.

Spindles has been an outstanding coach in Victoria and Australia for many years. He was the coach of the Victorian Tigers Women’s team in the former National League competition for 7 years and has coached the Australian U18 Girls & U20 Womens teams. Greig was also an assistant coach for the Australian Senior Women’s teams for the World League Finals in 2005, 2007 and 2010 and Assistant coach of the Australian Senior Women’s teams at the 2007, 2009 & 2011 World Championships. “I’m really excited to have the opportunity to coach the Victorian based women’s team in the AWL and look forward to developing a strong team” said Greig.

Slobodan Macic has been appointed Men’s Head Coach for the upcoming 2022 Australian Water Polo League season.

Slobo has a long list of successes as a coach of male athletes in Australia and overseas. He has coached the Montenegro Youth Team to a gold and a silver medal at the European Championships and coached the Victorian Seals to 2nd place in the former National League competition back in 2014. He also coached Waterpolo club Budva into the Final 4 in the Rome European Club Championship and Primorac Kotor waterpolo club to the European Club Champions League quarter finals. On accepting the position, Slobo said “It is an extreme honour and I’m grateful for the opportunity to coach this team. I will give all I have to this role.”

Both the Mens and Womens AWL teams will have separate ‘Selection Committees’ responsible for selecting athletes in each AWL squad and selecting the teams for all games. Each of the Mens and Womens Selection Committees will be made up of the respective Head Coach and two additional Committee members with a lot of experience in the sport at an AWL level. These Committee members will be announced in the next week.
