Bather Equality

Richmond Water Polo Club has been actively designing and executing a number of programs to encourage female participation in Water Polo. The club has recognised that the cost of equipment - namely bathers can be a barrier to females joining and staying with Water Polo. 

Earlier this year we applied for a grant from the Victorian State Government specifically to subsidise the price of women’s bathers. The basis for this request was inline with the government’s Change Our Game initiative which is, “to level the playing field for women and girls in sport and active recreation”. 

It is with much excitement that we can share that our application was successful.

The proceeds of the grant will enable us to provide women’s bathers at the same price as men’s for the next 12-18 months. Once the grant has been exhausted the club is committed to identifying a long term source of funding to continue the initiative ongoing.

As always, Richmond strives to support all of our members in their participation of Water Polo and we hope that this change goes some way to meeting this goal.
