Vale John O’Brien (1931-2020)

It is with extreme sadness that Water Polo Victoria (WPVic) announce the passing last night of Life Member John O'Brien.
Known universally as Obie, John (born 8 October 1931) represented Australian water polo as a player competing at the 1956 Summer Olympics and as captain at the 1960 Summer Olympics. He was a formidable player and captain-coach for the Richmond club and Victoria  teams during a very successful era. A true legend of the sport and respected by his teammates and competitors alike. See a personal profile on the WPVic website.

He loved his football but Water Polo was his game. When the forward move was on and the goal scored it was his skill and strength that won so many finals.

The Richmond Water Polo Club and the Victorian water polo community express sincere condolences to his wife Nancy.
